Conflicts between trademarks and domains

Several decisions from the Norwegian Supreme Court have been on the matter of conflict between registered trademarks and Internet domain names. November 10th 2004 the Norwegian Supreme Court decided that the domain name  "www.volvocars.no" was too similar to the registered trademark "Volvo". "Volvo" was, according to the court, the dominating part of the domain name. The domain was therefore in conflict with EU's trademark directive of December 21st 1988 article 7, and the Norwegian law of trademarks.
